Brazilians Protest Again Against Covid-19 Outbreak Management

Another wave of demonstrations occurred in several Brazilian cities on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 or when President Jair Bolsonaro gave a speech. Demonstrators rallied on a number of streets across the country to protest Bolsonaro’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In recent days, Bolsonaro has been rocked, with his popularity already weakening amid high daily death tolls from Covid-19 and coronavirus cases. On Wednesday, June 2, 2021, there were around 100,000 Brazilians who were positive for Covid-19 and 2,507 corona virus patients who died there.

In a televised address, Bolsonaro summarized some of the recent achievements of his administration and promised to strengthen economic growth. Regarding the corona virus, Bolsonaro only assured that all Brazilians would be able to get at least one dose of the corona virus vaccine, by the end of this year.

Following Bolsonaro’s speech, the Brazilian Ministry of Health made a number of revisions. Among them will distribute around 4 million doses of the corona virus vaccine during June 2021.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, the Supreme Court authorized a criminal investigation against Brazil’s Minister of the Environment for allegedly interfering with the police’s evidentiary efforts for illegal logging cases.

Brazil was hit by a wave of protests on Saturday, May 30, 2021, which was attended by thousands of demonstrators. Protests took place in at least 16 cities across the country, coordinated by left-wing politicians, trade unions and student unions.

In the city of Sao Paulo, thousands of people, wearing masks, protested until they closed the city’s largest square. There is a giant balloon with a picture of President Bolsonaro like a vampire.
